And Vinyly is offering music lovers the chance to have their ashes pressed into a vinyl record.

The British company (whose name rhymes with ‘And Finally’) will take the ashes after the cremation and send them to a record pressing plant where the remains will be mixed into vinyl pellets. These pellets are then pressed into discs.

According to the business website, a range of packages are available with the basic offering starting at 30 LPs for approximately $4,600 (£3,000).

Each record has just 24 minutes of available audio, with 12 minutes on each side. Music fans can either supply the audio content themselves or have songwriters from the business write and record songs on their behalf.

In an interview with Businessweek.com, founder and music producer Jason Leach, said: ‘I didn’t expect much from it. It was just for fun. However, I’m sometimes up 24 hours a day just answering calls [about the service].’

For a further £3,500, James Hague of the National Portrait Gallery in London will create an original painting for the record sleeve, news reports have revealed.
