Scottish rock singer Amy Macdonald and folk-rock veteran Richard Thompson lead a new programme of musical events taking place in Birmingham.

Forthcoming performances feature a wide range of styles and artists - music is expected to include Americana, avant-funk, Irish folk and Japanese taiko drumming.

Richard Thompson will perform at the city’s Symphony Hall on 21 February while Amy Macdonald will appear on 1 March.

Other highlights include jazz star Brad Mehldau performing alongside fellow pianist Kevin Hays at the Town Hall on 21 February and Mary Chapin Carpenter joining the cast of Transatlantic Sessions at the Symphony Hall on 7 February.

The PRS for Music Foundation funded Jazzlines programme offers a wide range of gigs at various venues across the city - Troyka and The Golden Age Of Steam at the Hare and Hounds on 30 January and Walter Smith III at the CBSO Centreon on 2 February as well as the Brad Mehldau and Kevin Hays performance.

Jazzlines is an initiative combining concert programming and educational work connecting people to jazz music.

The free monthly jazz session Sax In The City, featuring The Notebenders, will return to the Symphony Hall Café Bar from 26 January.

The full programme of live jazz, folk, world and roots music events can be found on the Town Hall and Symphony Hall website.
