Last year, the 18-year-old rising star appeared on SBTRKT’s album Wonder Where We Land and the Lorde-curated soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

He also released acclaimed alt hip-hop single God’s Whisper and album Indigo Child.

Speaking to the BBC, Raury said: ‘It's pleasantly, overwhelmingly, honouring. I remember the time Frank Ocean was on it (in 2012). I was like, “man, hopefully I can be an artist of that calibre”.

‘It doesn't go to my head. It actually does the opposite and humbles me - these people out here believe in me, so I have to live up to that and make the most amazing music ever. Even if I hit number one, or just 15 or whatever, it will set the standard for me to work even harder.”

Yesterday, George the Poet came fifth in the poll. DJ Huw Stephens will be revealing the remaining shortlisters and winners throughout the week on BBC Radio 1.
