British indie rockers Alt-j have scored their first number one album with their second full length record This Is All Yours.

The band - consisting of guitarist/vocalist Joe Newman, drummer Thom Green and keyboardist/vocalist Gus Unger-Hamilton - saw their 2012 debut An Awesome Wave reach number 13 as well as win the Mercury Prize.

Alt-J finished the week over 5,000 copies ahead of number two LP Barbra Streisand’s Partners while Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour remains at number three.

Gus from the band said: ‘We're over the moon to see our album at number one. It was never something we thought we'd achieve, but it's our fans who have put us there so we owe this to them.’

Martin Talbot, chief executive at the Official Charts Company, added: ‘Mercury Prize winners Alt-J may well be established as critics darlings, but it is great to see them score their first official number one (as well as their first top 10) in the official albums chart this week.’

Elsewhere, the reclusive electronic producer Aphex Twin has claimed his highest chart position to date with his new album Syro. His previous highest chart entry was number 11 with 1994 debut, Selected Ambient Works Volume II.

Alt-J released announced their biggest gig to date, with a show at London’s O2 Arena on 24 January 2015. Click here to find out how to get tickets.
