Almost Famous returned to London on October 8 at a new venue, The Bull & Gate in Kentish Town, which recently celebrated 30 years of putting on live music. With the Flowerpot and the Abbey down the road and the Forum next door Kentish Town is back as a destination for live music.
The doors opened at 6.30pm and the venue quickly filled up for our early show. The night kicked off with a glitter-clad Night Bus and a set bursting with energy, with Jackson jumping off the stage to sing in the crowd and dance with some of the unsuspecting audience. Co-vocalist Hannah danced around in amazing skyscraper stilettos as they disco-ed their way through a great set including I Wanna Be You and the catchy Freak All Week.
Next to the stage were Foreign Office, whose danceable tracks and dark lyrics had feet a-tapping and heads nodding in the crowd. The four-piece kept their new single On Repeat until the end but for 25mins took the crowd through a amazing sounding set of songs filled with soul, funk and punk. Highlights included One, Two, Three and Leaving the House.
Our final act of the night was Evaline, whose performance at Almost Famous was the last of their hectic two week tour before they head back to California. Their shows over here included a two night support of Placebo at Brixton Academy and Steven Forrest from the band turned up to show his support. Once all six of them were on stage they drew the crowd closer and closer with a powerful performance which included an impressive bit of synchronised four-man drumming. Working hard, the guys were literally dripping with sweat as they stepped off stage to rapturous applause.
It was a great night and PRS for Music would like to thank The Bull & Gate, Club Fandango and Tuborg.
Watch our Almost Famous video for even more Almost Famous flavour. The bands appear in this order: Nightbus 0.20; Foreign Office 6.33; Evaline 13.18.
Look out for more Almost Famous footage on M in the coming few days.
