Huck and the Zander Band will be debuting Alexander the Great; A Folk Operetta in Cambridge in May.

PRS for Music Foundation has funded the operetta which promises to take the form of a concert film reminiscent of Stop Making Sense or The Wall.

Act 2 is the latest instalment in a three-part project from the group which organisers are describing as an ‘audio-visual odyssey’. The performance of Americana and folk music will take place at Cambridge Junction on 24 May alongside producer Sebastian Reynolds.

In a press release, the performance is described as ‘channeling classic literature and mythology through a postmodern view of the South ... the operetta explores this richly fertile ground - both stylistically and thematically - in a raucous and outrageous evocation of sex, drugs and gods’.

Humphrey 'Huck' Astley is an Oxford-based poet-singer-songwriter who cut his teeth fronting Huck and the Handsome Fee.

PRS for Music Foundation supported the project via its New Music Plus...UK programme.

This initiative helps producers work in partnership with non-music and cross-art form organisations who want to strengthen their approach to programming new music. Find out more from the PRS for Music Foundation’s website.
