Alan Davey CBE has taken up a voluntary three-year post on the board of trustees at the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS), the national development agency for the folk arts.
The BBC Radio 3 controller and former chief executive of the Arts Council is a long-term folk music fan and described joining the board as 'an honour'.
Speaking about his interest in folk music, Davey said: 'Throughout my life I’ve been curious about all kinds of music, but folk music and an interest in folk traditions around the world has been a constant for me. I’m interested in how folk music relates to other types of music – classical and others – and traditional music from all over the world.'
Alistair Anderson, chairman of the EFDSS board said of the new posting: 'We are very pleased to welcome Alan to the EFDSS Board. He brings a wealth of skills and experience to the role that will enable the Society to continue to progress.'
