The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has announced an extension to its BBC licensing deal.

The BBC and BBC Worldwide agreement, which is the first of its kind for indie music and has seen its members release numerous new commercial projects under the agreement.

It enables AIM members to use BBC recorded content for TV sales, streaming and downloads, sync licensing and physical audio and DVD releases under a single licensing structure.

Since this new licensing agreement was first signed in May 2014 a wide range of independent labels including Beggars Group, Bella Union and Ninja Tune have released products that include tracks licensed under this agreement. Some of the featured artists include The Fall and Enter Shikari among others.

Charlie Phillips, AIM’s head of legal and commercial affairs, said: ‘I am delighted that we have managed to secure an extension to this valuable initiative.

‘More and more AIM members are using the agreement, with a notable increase in uptake to license AV recordings for use on internet video services, in addition to the more traditional licensing of audio recordings for physical and digital release. The BBC have wholeheartedly supported this agreement from day one and their willingness to keep it going for another year at least is testament to its continuing success.’
