AIM Awards 2018 winners crowned

IDLES, Tracey Thorn, Goldie and Jorja Smith are among the artists acknowledged at the 2018 AIM Awards for independent music.

Bristolian punks IDLES received the gong for Hardest Working Group, Thorn took home the coveted Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award and Goldie was honoured with the Pioneer Award.

Rising RnB artist Jorja Smith was given the Breakthrough of the Year Award following the release of her debut album Lost & Found, while North East songwriting powerhouse Nadine Shah took home the Independent Album of the Year Award for Holiday Destination.

Pop duo Let’s Eat Grandma received the award for Best Sophomore Release for their second album I’m All Ears, while Dave, who performed at last year’s awards ceremony, took home the PPL Award for Most Played New Independent Artist.

Coldcut’s long-running Ninja Tune imprint won the Independent Label of the Year gong, while their artist Peggy Gou won Independent Track of the Year for her song It Makes You Forget (Itgehane).

The Independent Video of the Year award went to singer-songwriter Novo Amor for his epic Birthplace video, directed by Sil van der Woerd and Jorik Dozy.

The ceremony took place last night (Tuesday) at the Brewery, London, and featured performances from Boy Azooga and Goat Girl.
