Adopt a Composer, an initiative pairing up and coming composers with amateur music groups, is set to return for its 14th year.

Run by Making Music in partnership with Sound and Music and BBC Radio 3, as well as the PRS for Music Foundation, the campaign enables voluntary groups to ‘adopt’ a composer over the course of a year.

The emerging composers, often at the start of their career, will gain important music writing experience while the voluntary groups have the chance to have a piece composed for their style and ability.

Richard Whitelaw, head of programmes at Sound and Music, said: ‘Adopt a Composer is a lively and challenging project for composers and ensembles alike. It has made a hugely positive impact on the skills and confidence of the many composers who have participated in it over the years. Sound and Music is very proud of its continuing partnership in this unique programme.’

The selected pairings for 2014/15 are as follows:

Ailie Robertson with Jubilate (Middlesex)
Mentored by Colin Riley

Anna Braithwaite with Quirky Choir (Yorkshire)
Mentored by Fraser Trainer

Kirsty Devaney with Arden Recorder Orchestra (Warwickshire)

Mark Carroll with Strathaven Choral Society (Scotland)

Michael Betteridge with Cobweb Orchestra (Cumbria)
