Adele’s 25 is the official biggest artist album of 2015, according to Official Charts Company data.
Statistics revealed that the album sold 2.496m copies since it was released just over six weeks ago in November last year.
The record sold 800,307 copies in its opening week and went on to break numerous records – after ten days, 25 crossed the 1m sales barrier before reaching 2m after 29 days of release.
Ed Sheeran’s second album X was in second place - X finished the year on 971,000 combined sales (2.66m in total to date across its release lifetime).
Rounding off the top three was singer songwriter Sam Smith with his album, In The Lonely Hour.
The findings showed that the record achieved 893,000 combined sales in 2015.
