Songs by Grammy Award-winning artists Adele and Ed Sheeran are soothing airport passengers at London City Airport as they queue to go through security.
At the first airport in Britain to have on-site ambient music, passengers are now privy to gentle electronics and upbeat acoustica at security areas and in long queues.
Ben Howard and Jason Mraz are also on rotation, according to The Times.
Airport staff consulted University of Sheffield music psychologists to ensure the background music created a more pleasant environment.
Stephanie Bramley, an honorary research fellow in the psychology of music at the university, said: ‘In an airport, playing music which is subtle fits in with the overall ambience of the security search area [and] might act as a positive distraction where passengers focus on the music instead of the time spent completing the security search process.’
There are two different playlists currently on rotation, which have been selected by music consultancy firm C-Burn.
