ACM breaks drumming world record

A team of 35 drummers at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) has broken the Guinness World Record for Longest Marathon Drumming.

A team of 35 drummers at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) has broken the Guinness World Record for Longest Marathon Drumming.

The 70 hour marathon began on Wednesday 10 July and finished on Saturday 13 with each drummer taking on a two hour stint as part of the record-breaking attempt.

Pete Riley, Mike Dolbear and Craig Blundell were among the drummers taking part at ACM’s Roger Taylor Zildjian Studio at the college headquarters in Guildford.

Julia Leggett, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at ACM, said: ‘ACM loved hosting the event and we’re delighted to have broken a world record in music and raised so much money for the Clean My Teeth Campaign.

‘We’re very lucky to have a hugely talented bunch of student drummers here at ACM, supported by tutors who are some of the best drummers in the world as well as our special guest drummers like Mike Dolbear and Craig Blundell.’

The full list of drummers is Mike Dolbear, Josh Stagg, Windsor McGilvray, Kris Wagland, Patrick Allan, Jay Bonney, James Benwell, William Jupp, Kate Devlin, Oliver Sears, Steven Price, Craig Richards, Steve Fulcher, Chris Nugent, Charlie Campbell, Craig Blundell, Phil Wilson, Dimitris Astrantinis, Oli Leonard, Jamie Moore, Marc Daffern, Kamil Bartnik, Cameron Black, Colin Marshall, Neil J Hart, Marcus Shearer, Tim Nugent, Pete Riley, Rob Dowsett, Gareth Burnett, Dom Cardell, Kim Der Ram, Jonny Francis, Dominic Crossland, Elliot Kratt and Ian Aguado-Bush.

The previous Guinness World Record, held by Nexus Music College in Coventry, achieved 66 hours with 11 different drummers between 3-6 May 2009.
