The legendary studios, which opened in 1931 and came to international attention through the recording work of The Beatles and Sir George Martin, triumphed in the category over BBC 6Music, Jools Holland, Gary Barlow and Gareth Malone of the Military Wives Choir.

The British Inspiration Awards are now in their fourth year and recognise creative organisations and individuals across film, television, music, fashion, arts, technology, media and more.

Former winners include JK Rowling, Danny Boyle, Brian Cox, Working Title Films, Tate Modern, BBC Worldwide and the very first recipient in the Music category, Sir George Martin.

M recently went for a behind-the-scenes tour of Abbey Road to meet authors and recording fanatics Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew as they talked their way through the history of the studios. Read our feature here.
