The 2011 Latitude Festival will be providing the weekend’s soundtrack for  thousands of revellers, offering a wide selection of bands and artists. Artists topping the bill include The National, Paolo Nutini, Suede, Bombay Bicycle Club, Foals and Eels.

We’ve been hearing from a number of artists who are due to perform at Latitude who talk about what they are looking forward to seeing at the festival, what they’ve got planned for their performances and who their fantasy

Friends Electric

Probably Foals. Really hoping to catch Lykke Li too.

Not including items used in your performance, what is your 'must-have' festival item?
This is going to be our first festival season, so we're completely green in this game! Any suggestions?!

Do you have anything special planned for your performance at Latitude?
Yeah, we're bringing the party.

If you could have anyone (dead or alive) to introduce you onstage who would it be (and why)?
James Brown. We love James Brown.

If you have been to Latitude before what was your favourite memory, performance or special spot on site?
This is our first time, were hoping to make memories.

Latitude is...
…6 years old.

Glasser

I think drinking water is a really important, but I always seem to forget about that. Also ear plugs.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance at Latitude?
You'll just have to see, there's always at least an outfit to see.

If you could have anyone (dead or alive) to introduce you onstage who would it be (and why)?
Pee Wee Herman. I'm a massive fan.  I hope to collaborate with him someday.  He doesn't return any of my emails.

Latitude is…
…the angular distance of a location on earth, south or north of the equator. ;)

They Might Be Giants

I've never seen Os Mutantes perform so this would be my opportunity.

Not including items used in your performance, what is your ‘must-have’ festival item?
I must have a nap at some point. I can put on a really good performance if I get some sleep and then have a cup of coffee beforehand.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance at Latitude?
We have a raft of new material, most of which we haven't learned how to play yet. It's all pretty damned special but we have to get rehearsing. However, an advantage to playing new songs is that the audience can't tell if you're messing up the lyrics.

If you could have anyone (dead or alive) to introduce you onstage who would it be (and why)?
If we could have any dead person introduce us that would be pretty exciting. We could use some kind of concealed hydraulics to open and close the corpse's mouth and make the arms wave around. My choice would be the corpse of John C. Calhoun. You have to Google a picture of him to see why that would be cool.

Latitude is…
…an interesting name for a festival. I'm going to guess that it refers to both the distance from the equator (although I don't know what they're driving at with that - is there some cachet to being closer to the North Pole?) and the wide freedom of movement that the name implies. As in, They Might Be Giants have the latitude to go into an uncontrolled, Cookie Monsterish frenzy if we want to.

Latitude is taking place from 14th – 17th July 2011 at Henham Park Estate, Southwold, Suffolk.
