British indie rockers The 1975 have broken the record for the longest album title to take the number one slot in America’s Billboard 200 charts.

The group’s second album - I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It - has reached the top of the charts.

With 71 characters (including spaces), Billboard has reported it is the longest beating previous record holder - LL Cool J's 59-character G.O.A.T. Featuring James T. Smith: The Greatest of All Time from 2000.

Although the record reached the number one spot in the UK, it only has the second longest title for a chart topper.

According to the Official Charts Company, Tyrannosaurus Rex hold the current record with 1972 double album reissue Prophets, Seers And Sages The Angels Of The Ages / My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair... But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brow.

The album has a total of 123 characters.

Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, Terence Trent D’Arby’s debut album is third in the list.
