He’s been heading up the prestigious ceremony for the past 27 years, and in that time has welcomed more than his fair share of amazing songwriters to the stage to receive their accolade.
But this year’s shortlist includes London Grammar, Sam Smith, John Newman, Disclosure (left), Passenger and Naughty Boy – all of whom seemed to appear out of nowhere in 2013 to monopolise both the charts and the critic’s hearts.
All coming from different angles, and with different agendas, these new songwriters built on the past success of British music abroad and have spread their sound around the world.
It's great to see industry heavyweights Arctic Monkeys, Benjamin Wallfisch Nick Cave and Warren Ellis also appear in the nominations this year, making for a great rounded selection and an exciting awards ceremony on 22 May!
