To mark the release of their 10th studio album, Tallulah, Feeder’s Grant Nicholas takes over M’s Friday playlist to share some of his favourite tracks.
In the 25 years since the band formed in Newport, Feeder achieved great success in the post-grunge landscape.
While the heaviness of their early records endeared them to Kerrang! and Metal Hammer, the commercial appeal of Buck Rogers and Paperfaces’ more mellow tones opened them up to a wider audience.
Recent years have seen a flurry of activity from the band with 2016’s All Bright Electric and 2017’s Best Of compilation both hitting the top 10, amongst a bunch of festival and headline dates.
Now the band are back with Tallulah, which captures their unique take on anthemic guitar pop that won them early supporters and continues to draw a new generation of fans.

Pixies – Where Is My Mind
I have loved Pixies for many years and have been lucky enough to see them live a few times. This is such a simple but powerful song. It's an indie classic.
PJ Harvey – This Is Love
Taken from one of my favourite PJ Harvey albums. She has such a great voice and this track has some great guitar sound. I have always loved her more guitar driven stuff.
Neil Young – A Man Needs A Maid
It's hard to pick from such an amazing back catalogue of songs. Neil Young is a legend, and this is one of his most beautiful and heart felt moments.
Smashing Pumpkins – 1979
I have always liked the Smashing Pumpkins and this song introduced a slight electronic element after working with producer Flood. It's such a catchy song, and still undeniably 'them'.
The Police - Message In A Bottle
This song has such a cool guitar riff that I spent hours trying to master it in my youth. The Police have been a big influence, and this is one of their many great tunes.
Jade Bird – I get no Joy
I discovered Jade online and really like her passion and attitude. She has an Edie Brikell / Alanis Morissette feel about her. Classic old school but still feels fresh.
Billie Eilish - when the party’s over
My kids introduced me to her. She’s definitely the real deal and I love her delivery and style. Refreshing to find a young artist with such connection and great tunes.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Don’t Come Around Here No More
I’ve been a Tom Petty fan for many years and was lucky enough to catch him at Hyde park a few years back. He has inspired me massively as a song writer and his songs will always be timeless.
Nirvana – Milk It
This song has such a power and energy to it. I love the drum soul and the vocal is so unbelievable. I think sonically speaking, this is one of the best Nirvana moments.
MGMT – Kids
This song gets into your head and gets its hooks in. It's a great song and I love the product. The rest of the album is pretty special, too.
Eels – Rags To Rags
I have been an Eels fan since the first album. This was a song that was always on repeat in my house. Class.
Nick Drake – Pink Moon
The man was an angel sent down to make beautiful melody and music. If you don't like at least one Nick Drake song, you need to see a psychiatrist.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps
One of the coolest bands around. I love Karen's vocal style and delivery. This is a song that I never get tired of listening to.
