Avec Sans are Alice Fox and Jack St James, an impossibly hip electronic duo that excels in poised pop perfection.
They first popped up on our radar with their icy cover of Bon Iver’s heartbreaking Perth, which flew its way round the blogosphere in a matter of minutes and set out the pair’s stand as a unique voice in British electro-pop.
Fast forward two years and they’ve released a string of acclaimed singles, from the insanely catchy Drive-themed Hold On to Shiver and their latest glacial offering All of Time.
As well as maintaining a steady stream of fresh tunes and an active performance schedule, Alice and Jack are also building a name for themselves in fashion circles.
They have designed a shoe for London fashion brand Swear, they’ve been name-checked by Dolce and Gabbana, have DJed in Milan for the launch of luxury brand Sandro and have also been played down the catwalks of New York Fashion Week.
With all this going on – not to mention the recording of their debut album – we were tickled pink to get some time with Alice for this week’s playlist.
Scroll down to listen to the Avec Sans playlist through Spotify and read Alice's blow-by-blow account of all the songs they’re digging at the moment.
Enjoy!
RAC- Let Go
To be honest, we could probably make a whole playlist of RAC right now. Everything he touches is golden.
Young Wonder- To You
This is another of those songs that just drags you in from the moment it starts and takes you to a euphoric place. This Irish duo are brilliant, we hope to play with them at some point.
MNDR – Feed Me Diamonds (RAC remix)
Here’s old golden touch again. We’ve DJ’d this one out a few times, such a fun remix.
Hot Chip- The Warning
Hot Chip are one of the reasons I fell in love with electronic music. This song is delicious, so tongue in cheek, so laid back. All of the massive EDM acts should take a listen to this and pull it back a bit.
TV on the Radio - Will Do
Possibly the sexiest song of all time. We did a cover of this which keeps getting pulled into “Songs to Have Sex to” playlists, which is hilarious. But it all stems from the original’s beauty and appeal.
Haerts – Wings
I used to be in a band with the bassist from Haerts and the thing I love about this track is that I had NO IDEA that it was his band until I’d already fallen in love with Wings. They are an extraordinary band. They deserve to be making music still 20 years from now.
The Postal Service – District Sleeps Alone Tonight
The Postal Service are very very first electronic love and another reason I realised my heart belonged to electronic music. This album is one of my favourites, every track is brilliant.
Avec Sans - Shiver
This is one of my proudest moments as a band so far. It’s essentially a super fun pop song about death. I want to deal with every aspect of life and death in an uplifting matter.
Baths – Lovely Bloodflow
This track is just wonderful in its oddness. We get a real kick to trying to sing along to it.
Jon Hopkins – Open Eye Signal
We saw Jon perform recently, he’s a major talent and it’s great to see him breaking through in the massive way that he is.
