This week’s playlist comes from premiere party people Percolate, who are all set to welcome you into a new decade with some choice cuts from 2019.
Percolate have once again joined forces with London club E1 bring you a very special New Year’s Eve party.
They have brought together the artists who defined the past decade (Joy Orbison, Midland) with the artists shaping the direction of the next one (Eris Drew, GiGi FM), to see in the new year.
Ahead of the celebrations Percolate have selected their favourite tracks of 2019. Dig in…
Leif – Yarrow
Delicious ambience from the Freerotation resident on Whities. Could’ve picked anything from the LP as it’s all lush textures and best enjoyed as a whole. As perfect for being horizontal in a park on a Summer’s afternoon as it is for navigating the night bus home.
Eris Drew – See You In Snow
A subdued ravey drum machine workout from one of the defining DJs of 2019. Ridiculously excited that she'll be bringing her ecstatic rave energy to a Percolate dancefloor on NYE.
Jai Paul – He
The king is back. All hail Jai! Apparently, he made this in 2012…whatever kind of noises he’ll be cooking up now going into a new decade, us mere mortals can only speculate.
Joy Orbision & Overmono – Bromley
After blowing various scenes apart and changing the game with Hyph Mngo in 2009(!), Joy Orbison has spent the last decade doing his own thing, all that kinda thing aka quietly smashing it.
His recent collaboration with the super talented Overmono draws you in with an elastic club groove before that vocal sample turns up. Typically, unorthodox, understated and anthemic.
Midland – The Alchemy of Circumstance
Another huge favourite of ours that has spent the last decade on his own path and being bloody great at it.
Picked this one for the song title inspiration: ‘A couple of years ago, I watched Andrew Weatherall djing at the Lion and Lamb. He played a Patrick Cowley record but in a way I had never expected, I went over and told him this and he responded, ‘The Alchemy of Circumstance dear boy.’
Caribou – Home
Dan played our last NYE as Daphni and was really, really good obviously. Back with a new Caribou record and this is a super lovely avalanches-esque cut.
Hammer – Mind Bin
Might be a little biased on this one but...we started a label this year! Percolate Records! Check it out! Buy some records! Austin Ato and Hammer have both turned out great EPs so far and there's some really exciting bits in the pipeline. We could've picked anything off either record but Mind Bin wins on best title…
Private Press – The Struggle
Polish ride cymbal roller on Rekids. Propulsive as it gets.
Marie Davidson – Work It (Soulwax Remix)
We spent some time in Ibiza together over summer and apart from the Corrs CD stuck in the kitchen boombox this won heaviest villa rotation. Absolute treat.
Alex Kassian – Hidden Tropics
Pan fluoo-oo-oo-oooute!
FKA Twigs – Cellophane
Occasionally Twigs can be spotted in our office building and we all get rather starstruck and definitely never say hello. Beautiful track.
Reckonwrong – I’m a Spoon
And finally...Who doesn’t feel like a spoon sometimes.
