The current crop of high profile women in music seems to reflect a healthy and diverse industry. But there's always a story behind the headlines and M wanted to hear first hand from some of the industry’s leading women about the current state of play.
We organised a roundtable to mull over the big issues currently facing women in music. It was attended by songwriter Shelley McErlaine, producer Adrienne Aiken, songwriter and columnist Helienne Lindvall, publisher Mandy Oates, Sarah Richardson from Anorak PR, the Musicians' Union's Kelly Wood and PRS deputy chairman Paulette Long.
Paulette has worked within the music industry since leaving college in 1984. She first specialised in regional press for artists as diverse as Smiley Culture, Luther Vandross, Ozzy Osbourne and Mick Jagger.
She was elected to the Board of Directors at the Music Publishers Association in 2004 and 2005 and later became a trustee at the PRS for Music Foundation. Paulette is also a Director at Westbury Music.
