As one half of Mancunian rabble rousers Oasis, Noel Gallagher was one of nineties guitar’s music most outspoken figures.
But despite the ongoing and very public sibling rivalry between him and his brother Liam, it’s always been the quality of Noel’s music and songwriting which has seen him going far further than, as the band’s fourth album stated, merely ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’.
Since Oasis exploded out of Manchester during the height of Britpop, Noel’s songwriting abilities have been compared with some of the very best British talent. The likes of Definitely Maybe and What’s the Story (Morning Glory)? are albums which have not only been listened to and loved by any music fan but define a culture moment for the UK.
The band went on to achieve eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums before disbanding. Since then, Noel’s gone on to achieve great success with his latest outfit, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
