Laura’s chatting about the weirdness of being up against other brilliant songwriters in her category (Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, and Kiwanuka) and how ‘beating’ them to the trophy feels a bit odd.

It’s been an eventful year for the Birmingham-born artist and composer. Ahead of the release of her second album she spoke candidly about her struggles with anxiety and heartbreak.
She was also dropped by her label and snubbed by The BRITs in February. But it’s not been all difficult: she made the Mercury shortlist, received multiple MOBO nominations and scooped two nominations at The Ivors.
Prince, Elton John and Nile Rodgers have all been vocal about her numerous talents, while her collab with the latter, Overcome, earned her one of The Ivors nods.
