Eight albums in and a regular opening act at Glastonbury Festival, Beans on Toast – aka Jay McAllister – rose from north London's folk scene to become a cult musical storyteller.
Revered for his down-to-earth charm and singing about 'whatever comes into his head', the Essex native has brought his raucous, sing-along shows to everything from bedrooms to Wembley Arena, where he supported his pal and Xtra Mile Recordings label-mate, Frank Turner.
With a brand new album recorded in the Welsh countryside expected for 1 December (his birthday, as per Beans on Toast record-releasing tradition), the musician heads off on a 14-date European tour this October with Skinny Lister.
We caught up with him at the AIM Awards where he was there to pick up the Golden Welly award for Best Independent Festival on behalf of Frank, whose four-day Lost Evenings event was a hit with gig-goers earlier this year.
