Raghu Dixit has followed an unusual path into music, having picked up the guitar at the relatively ripe age of 19 and originally training to be a microbiologist.
When he was working in Belgium, his landlord overheard him singing and thought he was playing a CD. So impressed with Raghu's music, he took away a recording of it and within a week Raghu was playing live on air, with the radio station receiving compliments and inquiries about Raghu's performance. Shortly after, he returned to his native India, to think about how he could make music his career.
We first interviewed Raghu around this time last year, to hear about his journey so far. His music may be sung in his native tongue, but drawing so heavily upon Western musical influences like folk and classic rock, he breaks international barriers and has captured the imagination of music fans the world over.
He's since played at Glastonbury, Cambridge Folk Festival, Womad and venues the world over. In fact, his debut, self-titled album was the biggest selling non-Bollywood record in India in 2009.
This year, he came back to see us with his band, The Raghu Dixit Project. They played some new songs for us from their sophomore album, which is due to be released in the UK in the first quarter of 2013. The band also have a UK venue tour planned for May 2013, and a UK/European festival planned for that summer too.
