Samantha Whates’ fragile folk and homespun alt-pop is centred round introspective reverie and an unusual ear for melody.

Her lyrics are imbued with nostalgic recollections and pertinent observations, which dance lightly over a delicate fingerpicking guitar style.

Following on from a stunning debut album in 2013, Samantha has just released a brand new single in collaboration with Welsh folk ace James McArthur and the Head Gardeners.

Trees & Gold / Icicle finds her once again in fine fettle, with multitracked harmonies threading through layers of pedal steel guitar and fiddle.

While we were at The Great Escape 2015 we were lucky enough to catch Samantha perform another new track: watch her play Dark Waters exclusively for M on the beach…
