TV composer Chris Banks has written for shows as diverse as Ross Noble, the Bafta-winning How To Start Your Own Country and, as half of production team Banks & Wag, the CBeebies’ new music show ZingZillas. M talked to Chris to find out what was on his iPod
Infadels – Ghosts
Fantastic new single from these energised electro rockers. But then I would say that – Wag’s in the band.
Charlotte Hatherley - Bastardo
Peppy, idiosyncratic and witty, with a genius video from Shaun Of The Dead’s Edgar Wright. Love it.
The Style Council – Our Favourite Shop
It’s got Lenny Henry rapping on it. What’s not to like?!
Blur – To The End
Always at their best when they’re being vaguely melancholic – and this always provides the soundtrack when I’m feeling vaguely melancholic too.
Johnny Dankworth
I had the immense pleasure of working with Sir John and Dame Cleo [Laine] on ZingZillas last year. He was enthusiastic, great fun, and still blew a mean sax at 82. He’ll be hugely missed.
Eddi Reader – Patience of Angels
One of the first songs I fell in love with, and to. Boo Hewerdine’s songwriting is faultless, Eddi Reader’s vocals are peerless, and there’s too many punch-packing chord changes to count.
Queen – Mustapha
Hilariously audacious opener to their equally bonkers Jazz album.
George Fenton – Bergerac theme
BEST - TV - THEME - EVER. (OK, it’s a toss up between this and Airwolf.)
