Elro

Elro, real name Ian Llewellyn-Rowe, is one of the young bloods of the UK hip-hop scene. You may have already heard of him, being touted as 'one to watch' by Chantelle Fiddy or through his work with The Streets' Mike Skinner.

You may already have heard of him, being touted as 'one to watch' by Chantelle Fiddy (Mixmag, Dazed and Confused)We wanted to know what got this rising star of UK hip hop going and where his rhymes come from, so we spent 30 seconds with him to find out more...

I have been making music since…
2010 really... I mean I made joke stuff before that. But I actually started taking it seriously in 2010.

My music is…
A real variety of things really. I try not to make any two songs sound the same. But a lot of it is hip-hop I guess. But it varies so much from song to song that trying to define it is kinda pointless, I like to just let people listen.

You'll like me if you listen to...
Pitbull, Andy Scott Lee... Nah um, I'd say Eminem, Nas... those sort of people, but then I would say that because I'm a pretentious young man that raps. But yeah.. I'd like to think people who appreciate lyricism and wordplay would like my stuff.

My favourite venue is…
That I've played in is probably one of the universities I did with Tinchy [Stryder] on his tour. Herts Uni was lively! But that I've watched anyone else in, I'd probably say Wembley.

Music is important because…
People love it. As long as people love it, or use it to get through tough times I guess that it is important. Anything that helps people relax and chill out is important too...

My biggest inspiration is…
I couldn't possibly pick one, but lots of people have inspired me. Again, gonna seem a bit clichéd and obvious here, but people like Eminem, Mike Skinner and loads more. Just people that do things a bit differently.

My dream collaboration would be…
With Nas, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem on a Dre beat. The thing I've tried hardest to do in an attempt to improve my writing is concentrate on complex rhyme schemes. And these three know how to make a complex rhyme scheme.

To try me out, listen to my song…
Download my last mixtape Porcelain Corpse, which you can listen to and download here.

If I wasn't making music I’d be…
Doing something else that a pretentious attention seeker like myself would probably enjoy, like stand up comedy or otter polishing.

In 10 years time I want to be...
Happy. I can honestly say that career wise, nothing is more important to me than my happiness and the happiness of those around me. If I only ever sell 200 copies of any song I ever make I wouldn't care, as long as I can be happy.
