Calling all sonic experimenters: PRS Foundation and the Steve Reid Foundation have opened their latest call for applications to the Steve Reid Innovation Award.
The scheme offers vital support to unsigned artists pushing musical boundaries in the form of a bursary of up to £1,500, vinyl release support and mentorship from Steve Reid Foundation Trustees.
Founding trustees include pioneering artists Gilles Peterson, Four Tet, Theo Parrish, Floating Points and Koreless.
The award is open to anyone writing and performing their own music and is currently unsigned and unmanaged.
Applicants must submit links to their music as well as a three-minute video which explains their career to date, and how funding and mentoring would help with their creative development.
Artists can apply from today via https://prsfoundation.com/funding-support/funding-music-creators/early-career/stevereidaward/ with the final deadline for submissions on 8 August 2019.
Four artists will be selected in this round of funding.
Gilles Peterson, Steve Reid Foundation founder, said: ‘It is so exciting to be involved in a project that encourages and develops new talent and gives opportunities to artists who might otherwise never get a break. Steve Reid would be smiling!’
Winners from previous years include internationally acclaimed saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia, MOBO Award winning drummer and composer Moses Boyd and Oram Awards 2019 winner Lady Vendredi.
