Ringback licensing
Who needs this licence?
Companies selling or offering ringbacks through their network. Unlike ringtones, ringbacks are not downloaded to phones. Instead, they are played to the person making the call, while they wait for an answer.
What rights are covered in the licence?
This licence covers the communication to the public, and associated mechanical rights, of members' repertoire in the form of ringbacks streamed to callers. It does not cover any permanent download that may be kept by the caller.
How we calculate the licence fee
Royalty rates are calculated based on the greater of 15 percent of the gross revenue generated by the service and a minimum fee of 15p for each ringback streamed. This gross revenue includes any subscriptions or recurring charges for accessing the service. The licence is subject to a non-refundable advance of £1,000, excluding VAT.
