Public exhibitions
The SG4 licence
The public exhibition licence allows you to record the musical works you want to play to members of the public as background music to visual displays that are part of an exhibition within the premises of an exhibition venue. You will also need a performing right licence to play the music in your venue.
Examples include:
- Museum displays featuring audio or audio-visual content as part of the display
- Audio guides for museum exhibits
- Musically themed exhibitions
Prior approval for public exhibitions
For exhibitions where a single member of MCPS controls the Musical Works contained therein (either in whole or in part) that in aggregate account for 50% or more of the works used, the copyright holder may have elected to license their Musical Works to you directly.
The SG4 licence covers the payment of mechanical royalties only, which is paid to music publishers for the use of musical works. Sound recording rights must be licensed separately from record companies (where applicable).
