Baba Ali and Nia Wyn
Dynamic duo Baba Ali & Welsh neo soul artist Nia Wyn performed as part of PRS Presents at Members' Day London.
About the artists
Baba Ali
After moving from New York to London, meeting English guitarist Nik Balchin resulted in musical masterpieces. Baba Ali’s latest release ‘Living It Up’ has finally been gifted to the world after work began on the single back in 2020, released on Yard Act’s label Zen F.C. After setting the song aside to work on their pulsating debut album ‘Memory Device’ Baba Ali returned to the abandoned track and immediately realised that they felt even more relevant to how they perform live on stage, which is sure to get you moving.
Baba Ali defies piegeonholing, with immersive beats nodding to time spent in the techno scene in Berlin, punk and psychedelic flares. Following a successful stint at SXSW 2022 supported by PRS Foundation’s International Showcase Fund, performing at the British Music Embassy stage and a Spring UK tour, the future is only bright for the dynamic duo!
Nia Wyn
Welsh neo soul artist Nia Wyn has a talent for raw and powerful storytelling. Set within a kind of unorthodox, engrossing vocal, immediately marking her out against the backdrop of emerging young female artists coming out of the UK – and conjures a very exciting defiant charisma that’s both hard and warm. Growing up in North Wales, Nia was exposed to a wide range of music from northern soul, the jazz-blues of Billie Holiday to hip hop icons Nas and Lauryn Hill.
Having worked with Paul Weller and supported both Weller and Paloma Faith live, Nia has attracted support from the likes of DIY, Wonderland, CLASH, EARMILK, BBC R1, 6 Music, BBC Introducing and Radio Wales. In October 2020, Nia's track Who Asked You was included in the FIFA 21 soundtrack, and she performed on EA SPORTS' World Premiere live stream event to promote the game's release. In 2021 she released her second EP Take A Seat digitally and on vinyl. Nia was also awarded with the PPL Momentum Music Fund by PRS Foundation.
Nia is getting ready to release her new EP via French indie label Unity Group in the summer of 2022. Following this, she will open for Paul Weller at Lytham Festival on 10th July, and play a London headline show at Courtyard Theatre on 14th July. Nia has also been announced as a finalist for Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition.
