One of the UK’s greatest and most loved indie bands Supergrass received a PRS for Music Heritage Award on the 3rd of October 2012 at the site of the gig where they were first signed by a label.

A plaque has been erected on the wall of the Jericho Tavern where all four members reunited to receive this honorary award and to celebrate the seminal Oxford music scene.

The Jericho Tavern in Oxford is renowned for its support of local live music and where Supergrass performed regularly during their early years.

The group formed in 1993 and their first single, the era-defining Caught by the Fuzz was released in 1994. They went on to carve out an idiosyncratic niche in British rock music over six studio albums, achieving a string of hit singles.

It’s a rare talent that epitomises the feeling and energy of an entire decade. Supergrass were so much a part of our soundtrack to the 90’s and the guys worked incredibly hard. Their output was impressive and it is a genuine privilege to be presenting the group with this well-deserved award. Oxford is an important hub for British music and live music venues like the Jericho Tavern need to be celebrated. It’s going to be a really special day.
