On 20 September 2010, legendary rock group Status Quo were honoured with a PRS for Music Heritage Award. A special plaque was erected in Eltham, South London where the group, then known as ‘The Status Quo’, first performed in 1967 at the Welcome Inn. The site now forms part of Weston Homes’ The Edens residential development.
The band were thankful to PRS for Music for honouring the venue where their career took off.
We’re honoured and delighted that our musical career has been chosen to be marked in this way. Some forty three years, 118 million records and 64 hit singles later we look back to that night here at what was the Welcome Inn with fondness and thanks.
It’s an honour and a pleasure for us to commemorate the site of the first Status Quo gig with a PRS for Music Heritage Award. Status Quo has been 'Rocking All Over The World' making an incredible contribution to the music scene in a career spanning an amazing four decades and they are still going strong. This much-loved and admired band have recorded over 60 chart hits in the UK, more than any other rock group in history, and remain Britain’s hardest-working band – for which they have been awarded a PRS for Music citation for the past two years running – a superb achievement.
