July 2023 Distribution update
Over £161 million in royalties paid in July 2023.
That’s £21 million and 15% more than in July last year. You can see if you’re due royalties this month via your online account. There are major contributions from online streaming services including Spotify (21% up) and Apple Music (17% up), and from on demand video services including Disney Plus (26% up) and Netflix (17% up). The increases in royalties from these platforms are a result of improved agreements with PRS and increased subscriber numbers.
Live music continues its resurgence with PwC predicting revenues in the UK will generate more than £1.6 billion in 2023 and continue to grow by 7% per year until 2027.
Major live concerts and touring artists have made a significant contribution to the 32% increase in live and public performance royalties and the 29% increase in international royalties in July’s payment, with the likes of Coldplay, Robbie Williams, The Cure, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Elton John selling out venues in the UK and across the globe.
The payment also includes previously held royalties from Spotify, iTunes and TikTok.
