About the artists
Heavy Lungs
Formed in May 2017 in Bristol, through friendship, and a desperate need for artistic and sonic self-expression, Heavy Lungs went on a frenetic spree. From the first packed out show at Crofters Rights, to recording an ep in 3 days, a raucous set at Simple Things last year, to supporting Idles then Metz. They went onto play outside Bristol home turf across the country and are fresh off a sold out UK tour with brothers, IDLES. This is the beginning. This is Heavy Lungs.
Black Midi
Having been together for just over a year, and having only released one single, 'bmbmbm', through Dan Carey's label, Speedy Wunderground, Black Midi have made a name for themselves in the UK for being 'the best new band in the UK that no one knows anything about' (NME 2018). bmbmbm' sold out its 300 copies almost instantly and had to be taken to repress within the first week.
Their minimal online and press presence has caused the music world to gravitate towards them and their incredible live shows. They recently had a sold out headline show at Electrowerkz and had a fast-selling UK tour in January. Their insoluble mix of electronic, hardcore and math rock married with their uncompromising youth gives them a wisdom beyond their years, and a sound that feels beyond this world. Black Midi are a band impossible to put your finger on, but equally impossible to ignore.
King Nun
King Nun exploded onto the London live scene two years ago, and remain one of the capital's most exciting outfits, building up a fierce live following around the UK. After releasing a string of hype-amassing singles in 2017, the four-piece decided to do things differently to their peers, and took a considerable amount of time off to hone everything in. They returned with a forward-thinking debut EP in tow, which staked their claim as a band ready to explode in 2019.
Released in November 2018 via Dirty Hit (The 1975, Wolf Alice, Pale Waves), I Have Love was a remarkable release, tackling a multitude of issues, from dysfunctional family life to abuse and groping at gigs, all centred about love's many forms, but put through the chaotic punk filter that defines the band and their influences. It's an informed, meticulously crafted release that sets the tone for what the Wandsworth quartet can do when they release their debut album later this year.
