Bob Vylan, GIRLI and Priestgate

Our first PRS Presents of 2022, took place on the 23rd February at Amazing Grace. A night stacked with excellent talent and a full room from start to finish with exciting performances from grime and punk duo Bob Vylan, alt-pop artist GIRLI and dream-pop band Priestgate.

About the artists

Bob Vylan

Bobby (vocals) & Bob13 (drums) make up the powerhouse duo Bob Vylan. Hailing from East London and Ipswich, the pair have made their mark on today’s scene with the combination of grime and punk, spitting powerful lyrics addressing racism and current state of affairs.

Since the release of their album, We Live Here (2020) which came at a time when the world stopped and reflected on events for Blackout Tuesday, title track single exclaimed the poignant truth of the existence of racism still today in the UK. Their delivery of such strong messaging has seen increasing industry recognition for this exciting band. Check out recent collaboration with Kid Kapichi on new single ‘New England.’

GIRLI

GIRLI (Milly Toomey) joins us at PRS Presents shortly after her hotly tipped released EP: Damsel in Distress; with a variety of emotive and feel-good songs, exploring identity, mental health and sexuality, demonstrated by infectiously catchy lead single ‘More Than a Friend’ which recently reached 10M streams on Spotify, where she confidently expresses her identity as a bisexual woman.

GIRLI has grown a lot since she first emerged at the age of 17, with her embrace of different sounds and styles, as she leans harder into pushing the boundaries of what actually is ‘girly’ anyway.

Priestgate

Raised in the sleepy town of Driffield in East Yorkshire, Priestgate, began as a reaction to the sparse local music scene around them, which in turn has allowed them to craft and develop their own unique sound. Drawing comparisons to The Cure and The Maccabees, Priestgate have combined bright guitar-pop hooks with darker lyrical sensibilities, concocting their own angst-laden blend of the hypnotic and euphoric.

Some of the band’s earlier music, received immediate radio support from Jack Saunders & Gemma Bardley (BBC Radio 1) and Steve Lamacq & Emily Pilbeam (BBC 6 Music) as well as support from the local industry.

Earlier this year, the band released a single from their anticipated debut EP ‘Eyes Closed For the Winter’ (due March 25, 2022), produced by Nick Hodgson (Alfie Templeman) and mixed by Caesar Edmunds (Foals, The Killers, PJ Harvey); leading to a steady momentum and establishing themselves as one of today’s most thrilling young bands.

Across the UK, PRS Foundation fund organisations who support the development of talent through its Open Fund for Organisations and its Talent Development Partners initiative.

Yorkshire Music Forum and Focus Wales are two of these funded organisations that have gone on to platform and support Priestgate and Bob Vylan.
