While Let Her Go enjoys a sixth week inside the top five, Passenger (aka Mike Rosenberg) has also been performing strongly on the albums chart with All the Little Lights peaking at number four.

Veteran Brit superstar Rod Stewart recently romped to number one with new studio offering Time, his first UK chart-topping album since 1979’s Greatest Hits Volume 1. The set marks Rod’s return to original songwriting, although he has remained prolific on the UK albums chart in recent years.  Through a series of hugely successful cover version collections, he has clocked up a total of 11 top ten albums since 2000 alone.

However, this week saw a closely fought battle for pole position on the albums chart between British electro duo Disclosure and American rockers Queens of the Stone Age.  The result eventually favoured Surrey’s Disclosure - brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence - with their debut album Settle.  It features their AlunaGeorge collaboration White Noise which rocketed to number two earlier this year.

Meanwhile, American R&B star Robin Thicke has sold over two million albums in the US but has had a lower profile in the British charts until now.  In the past fortnight, his single Blurred Lines shot to number one and became the fastest selling single of the year to date.

Elsewhere, Little Mix are the latest British act to invade the US albums chart with their debut DNA entering at number four this week.   It gives the 2011 X Factor winners the highest starting position ever for a British female group's first album Stateside. The previous record holders were the Spice Girls whose Spice arrived on the chart at number six back in 1997.

Other recent chart achievements include Daft Punk, who scored a transatlantic number one with their album Random Access Memories.  Pop princess and X Factor USA judge Demi Lovato enjoyed her first major UK hit single with Heart Attack which peaked at number three.  Meanwhile, super-diva Mariah Carey netted a 39th top 40 UK hit single with Miguel collaboration #Beautiful.

And finally some ABBA news!  The Official Charts Company recently confirmed that Gold: Greatest Hits is now the second best-selling album of all time in the UK having pushed The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band into third place.  ABBA’s 1992 compilation album has sold over 5.1 million copies and is now surpassed only by Queen’s 1981 compilation Greatest Hits with 5.9 million copies sold.
