Errol Brown, frontman of British soul band Hot Chocolate and behind such hits as You Sexy Thing and Every 1’s a Winner, has sadly passed away.

The vocalist died aged 71 at his home on the Bahamas after a lengthy battle with liver cancer.

Hot Chocolate released their first record entitled Love is Life in 1970 reaching number six in the charts. The group went on to enjoy over 30 hit records becoming the only group in the UK to have a hit single for fifteen consecutive years.

You Sexy Thing also famously enjoyed a revival after featuring in the British movie The Full Monty in the nineties. It meant it became the only song to be reach the top ten in the seventies, eighties and nineties.

Errol was awarded an MBE by the Queen for his services to popular music in 2003. He also received an Ivor Novello award for his outstanding contribution to British music in 2004.

In a statement, his manager, Phil Dale, said: ‘Errol Brown MBE passed away in The Bahamas this morning with his wife Ginette and daughters Colette and Leonie by his side of liver cancer. Errol was a lover of life and obviously 'music!' I never went into his home, car or a hotel room without music playing.

‘Errol was a 'gentle man' and was a personal friend of mine who will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. His greatest legacy is that his music will live on.’
