What is ICE?
ICE is the new works database that was implemented in 2010. Since we have switched to the new system, a number of changes have taken place to the way in which works are registered and how they are displayed in our Online Services.

How has ICE changed the structure of Member Services?
ICE is a joint venture with the Swedish collection society, STIM. Due to the nature of this partnership, the information in the database, and the team that work on updating its entries, are based in Stockholm. Member Services in PRS for Music’s London office will continue working on members’ queries and resolving post-distribution issues, and they are the contact point between the member and ICE.

What has changed and how will it affect me or my business?
There are two main changes that have taken place.
1. There is a change to our registration processes and the length of time it takes for the works to be loaded into the system.
2. There are changes to the way in which registration information is displayed on PRS for Music’s online services system.
These changes have been designed to improve quality and efficiency so that we can ensure you are paid the money you are due quickly and accurately.

What has changed in the song registration process?
One of the main changes is that it is now mandatory for publishers to provide agreement numbers when registering works. Other changes for publishers include the way in which ‘Chain Of Title’ and ‘Your Interested Parties’ are inputted.
Another change is the removal of the Fast Track method of registering tracks. This is because the amount of time it takes for a work to be loaded on the system is now 2 days, which is faster than the Fast Track method.

What has changed in the way works are displayed in the database?
These are works currently on our system that may be possible duplicates or recent amendments sent in for a specific work. The 'possible match' entries remain visible on the work until we receive reporting of the work’s usage. At this point the work becomes ‘active’. The duplicate entries will be merged in to one updated entry when we receive ‘activity’ (reported usage on a work). This means the ‘possible matches’ will be consolidated when the work is ready to be paid out on.
For more information on ‘possible matches’ and ‘activity’, please visit the Online Services section of the Help Centre.
