Devonshire choirs celebrate national competition win

 

Exeter Chamber Choir and the East Devon Choral Society have scooped the prestigious title of PRS for Music’s “Unforgettable Choir”, as well as a £500 prize in the first competition of its kind.

The inaugural nationwide competition, organised by PRS for Music, set out to discover the country’s best amateur choir live performance, newly recorded onto CD or DVD.

Entries were submitted from gospel, school and church choirs and choral societies from around the country and rated by a panel of music industry judges.

 

Darren Haynes, PRS for Music’s Marketing Manager said: “The standard of all the choirs was absolutely incredible but the judge’s decision for Andrew Daldorph’s modern oratorio was unanimous.”

Andrew Daldorph, Conductor of the Exeter Chamber Choir and composer of the piece entitled ’Songs of Hope and Creation’ said: “At the end of the performance in Exeter Cathedral there was a standing ovation, and throughout there was a fantastic atmosphere. It was an unforgettable performance. It’s great to be recognised by PRS for Music.

 

‘Songs of Hope and Creation’ was recorded at Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 31st October 2009.
